What will the first appointment be like?
Whether you are attending counselling or therapy because you have feelings of anxiety, stress, frustration, or low mood; Whatever your concern may be, I am here to make you feel comfortable. In our first appointment, we develop a therapeutic relationship, I assess what is happening for you at this time and we develop therapeutic goals and a treatment plan based on your needs. Individuals leave the first appointment knowing what type of evidence-based therapy we'll be using, and what our future sessions will look like!
What if I Feel Uncomfortable?
In addition to providing ethical and evidenced-based services, my goal is to practice as a compassionate and non-judgmental practitioner. I believe in human integrity, dignity, and equality. I also believe in humour and relatability. You have to feel connected to your therapist and like you can build a trusting relationship. As processing tough emotions can be challenging, I will try my best to make you, your partner, or your child feel comfortable. You may ask as many questions as you need to ease.

What Can I Expect From Couples Therapy?
It is understandable that both partners may be anxious to schedule and attend couples therapy and it is my goal to make you feel relaxed and calm in my office. I utilize an evidence-based method that has been proven to be highly successful in repairing relationship distress. Couples therapy begins with an assessment of the couple, followed by treatment that consists of both individual and couples sessions with both partners. What Types of Payment Do You Accept?
Open Skies Therapy accepts most payments including cheques, Visa, MasterCard, cash and e-transfers. Many people with personal health insurance have extended coverage which may cover all or a portion of services. I will provide you with a receipt that you can submit to your health insurance plan for reimbursement. In some cases, I may be able to direct bill your insurance provider. Please review the details of your coverage to see whether your plan includes coverage for services and if you require pre-approval or a physician’s referral. Please note: All our therapists are covered by Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB).
Furthermore, Open Skies Therapy also offers a sliding scale, meaning that we taken into account what an individual can pay, based on personal circumstances. What if I Need to Reschedule or Cancel my Appointment?
Life happens! If you need to reschedule an appointment please give me a call. I ask for at least 24 hours notice to help me plan our day. Please note that not showing up for your appointment or last-minute cancellations may result in a cancellation fee.
I've looked at your online calendar, but notice there are no dates/times available that work for me or my family member. Can I contact you to book?
Most definitely! Sometimes, dates/times book up quickly. Located on the online booking calendar, is a function to waitlist a date/time that you prefer if you do not see any availability listed. Alternatively, you can always contact me and we can figure out a time that works best for you and/or your family member.
Do you do group presentations?
YES! I love offering group presentations and attempt to make them as interactive as possible. My group teaching experience ranges from being a sessional lecturer at the University of Regina, presentations for doctoral specialists to government organizations such as the Ministry of Social Services.
